Just a few things I’ve seen, read and loved lately…
I have been obsessing over The Lumineers and play this song on a daily basis. I play it for Noah all the time – I’ve decided it’s our special song. This song gets me every time, too. Goosebumps. It’s been a while since I came across a band that I just couldn’t get enough of. Must. Buy. The. CD.
I bought this book recently and I’ve learnt so much about how my newborn experiences the world around him already. For example, I had NO idea that him bringing his fist to his mouth was actually his signal for feeling over-stimulated, and not that he’s hungry – I’ve been misreading this little sign all along! I also bought this little goodie for Noah. Here’s to many sleep-filled nights ahead!
I have spent the past four weeks trying to get Noah to fit into my life: attempting to get him to feed every three hours or sleep for four or more hours, based on other parents’ experiences. It look me four long weeks (and this article) to realise that what I was essentially doing was fighting with my child, when I should have been following his cues all along. If he’s hungry, he tells me – it’s my job to feed him, regardless of whether he ate three hours ago or just 45 minutes ago. I’ve also realised that he likes to be near me, so whenever possible, I let him nap on my chest (and yes, I’ve even slept with him in our bed once or twice). Not everyone agrees with this approach, but it’s working for me: Noah’s back to the calm little baby he was during his first week, and his fussing and crying has decreased considerably. He’s also sleeping much better – score!
My baby sling was one of my first purchases after discovering that I was pregnant. I’ve read numerous articles highlighting the gazillion benefits of baby-wearing, so it was something I planned on doing fairly early on. As it turns out, the sling I originally purchased doesn’t quite work for Noah and I – he’ll happily lie in the sling if I put him in it while he’s fast asleep, but he puts up a huge fuss when I try to put him in the sling while awake, which kinda defeats the purpose. Soooo… I’ve been looking high and low for one of these babies, and I’ve finally ordered mine. I can’t wait till it arrives!
One of my favourite things in the world is taking a long, hot bath… not something I get to do very often these days, but when I do, I like to make the most of it and really pamper myself. This week, I’ve been treating my hair to the amazing ‘Super Smooth’ haircare system from Pureology. Check it out, here. LUSH bath bombs are also a regular feature.
