Testing, Testing: Skincare products I’m currently loving

So, we’re 9 months into this mommy thang (and 5 months into working mama mode), which means that things have finally started to settle into a nice little routine. These days, I manage to find at least 15 minutes to take a bath (nothing remotely like my epic 3-hour pre-baby soaks, but it sure beats the 10-second shower I was getting accustomed to during the early days!), and my skincare and makeup routines are starting to resemble what they used to be. Here’s a little peek at what products I’m using (and loving) at the moment…

Lancome DreamTone Ultimate Dark Spot Corrector #2
When I first read about this product and the fact that 70% of women claimed that they would dare to go without makeup after using it for just 8 weeks, I was sold. There’s some serious science behind this product and it is available in 3 tailor-made formulas:

#1 (for fair skin that burns easily) – targets redness
#2 (for medium skin tones that tan easily) – targets sallow skin and greyness
#3 (for dark skins) – targets acne and blemish marks

I’ve been using DreamTone #2 twice daily (after cleansing and before moisturising) for 2 weeks, and I’ve already noticed a difference. I haven’t gone without foundation since I first discovered it aged 16, and to this day, I refuse to step out of the house without BB cream at the very least. I’m still not dying to run out of the house sans makeup, but I have noticed that I haven’t been using my regular concealer as much as usual. I definitely feel as though my skin is looking more uniform and even-toned, and I feel as though my skin just keeps getting better with each passing day.

Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Milk & Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+
I am a big, big, BIG fan of this luxurious cleansing milk. I apply it to dry skin using my fingertips before rinsing with water, and I’ve found that it’s gentle enough to use on my eyes, too. It removes all traces of makeup and grime, leaving my skin feeling soft, supple and deliciously clean (with absolutely no sign of that nasty ‘tight’ feeling).

But perhaps my ultimate product from Clinique is the new and improved Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+. When I first heard about this relaunch, I watched from afar (I was on maternity leave at the time of the press launch) as the tweets came rolling in, shaking my head in disbelief the entire time: “It’s not possible,” I said. “There is absolutely no way Clinique could possibly improve on this iconic product. No ways. Uh-uh. Not gonna happen.”

So… I was wrong. But you’d be forgiven for thinking the same. I mean, how much moisture can you possibly pack into a moisturiser? Double what you’re used to, apparently: the new formula delivers twice the hydration when compared to the original formula, and it also strengthens your skin’s own moisture barrier by 54%. All fancy beauty speak, of course, but the point is: this luxurious, silky moisturiser is incredibly lightweight and simply melts into your skin, while offering your parched dermis the skin drink it really needs. It’s lovely, trust me. It’s a must-try if you’re in the market for a new moisturiser.

Skin Republic Spots + Blemish Anti-Spot & Pore Refining Face Mask Sheet
I do love a good face mask – especially one that requires you to lie down, close your eyes, and forget about the world for a little while. And this one really works. I applied it to freshly cleansed skin directly after a long, warm bath (when I knew that my pores would be open so that the ingredients could really sink in and work their magic), then lay back on my bed while listening to beauty tutorials on YouTube for 20 minutes. Quite a lot of the product was left on my skin after I removed the mask, but I simply massaged this into my face, neck and decollete, as recommended on the packaging. My skin looked positively glowing when I awoke the following morning, and a pesky spot I’d been battling with appeared to be much smaller in size. It’s recommended that you apply this mask twice a week for the first month of use (as your skin has a regeneration period of 4 weeks), so I’ll be trying this treatment regularly over the next month.
