15 Things to do before summer ends (PLUS a giveaway!)

15 Things to do before summer ends (PLUS a giveaway!)

summer

A couple of nights ago, I hauled out my soft, luxurious faux-fur throw from Loads of Linen and rolled it neatly at the foot of our bed – a sure sign that Summer is on it’s way out. Fortunately, Cape Town has the tendency to stay rather toasty a good few weeks into Autumn so I haven’t started shopping for coats just yet, but I have started drawing up a list of things to do before summer ends!

I’ve always considered myself more of a Summer baby than anything else, but as I’ve gotten older, I’ve really started enjoying the cool Autumn months. I love that you can still flaunt all your favourite Summer clothing during the day, but that you have the option of snuggling up underneath a blanket with a hot water bottle in the evenings. That said, I’m definitely going to miss certain aspects of summer – which is why I plan on making the most of the last days of Summer by indulging in the following (don’t miss the giveaway at the end of this post!):

1. Go for long, evening strolls on the Sea Point promenade.

2. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy dinner on the beach one last time before the sun starts setting earlier.

3. Attend an outdoor yoga class.

4. Treat myself to a professional pedicure and show off my pretty toes in my gorgeous Saint & Summer sandals before putting them in hibernation till next Summer!

5. Sign off work at 3pm, then lay a blanket out on the lawn and catch up on my reading while Beanie plays in the sand.

6. Fill up Bean’s inflatable pool, pop a bottle of bubbly, and sip on champers while chilling in the pool and catching up with The Husband. BEST way to spend a summery Saturday evening (and a great way to wile away the time during load shedding…)

7. Give myself a full body scrub, then apply self-tan before showing off my newly bronzed legs in one of my short, summer dresses.

8. Take Beanie to the Green Point park.

9. Go for a long stroll on Long Beach in Noordhoek, for old time’s sake.

10. Then stop at The Barn to stock up on coffee and snacks for the car drive home.

11. Go for a hike (The Husband and I have been wanting to explore the hikes in our area for ages – the end of summer is the best time for a hike, I think – the weather isn’t too hot or too cold!)

12. Start moisturising my skin after every single bath or shower to ensure that I’m prepared for the cold, drying winter months ahead.

13. Buy flowers for the house every week.

14. Take Beanie on a boat ride.

15. Go for a walk around the neighbourhood every evening.

Your list is fantastic! The joys of living at the coast! The highveld definitely seems less “summery”. Shared on Twitter (@carlieshell) xx

  • We will be taking our dogs down to the beach and the Kaaimans river to swim and play, not that they’d mind the water when it’s cold but it’s really much more fun for us if we can walk in the water too!

I am studying! After 20 years since I last studied & with only weekends to study this is a challenge! Loving my breaks in the garden in the late summer sunshine. My kids are still in bed & I think are staying away from me on purpose!!

I love summer. Always have. As a child, I loved the warmth
    and the freedom! As a
teenager, I loved the freedom from school and the long, lazy days spent by the
    pool. Summer is freeing. There
is more time (longer days!) and more happiness (how hard it is for me to be sad
when the sun is shining!). I am enjoying the last days of Summer with tanned skin and sun-kissed hair. My summer plans: …. Time for an
adventure/ time to relax. . Time for ice cream and frozen yogurt, night walks after
the sun goes down, flip flops and bare feet, sun rises and sun sets, afternoon
naps, watermelon and strawberries and blueberries, tank tops, sun dresses.. I Live in a bathing
suit, paint my nails bright orange and bask in the sun! Neon colors, outdoor
    concerts, beach chairs, iced
coffee, sand in my toes, 8pm runs, and
    big sunglasses! There’s nothing
quite like summertime foods to remind me of how great summer is. There are
certain things I love to eat during the summer that I rarely have any other
time of the year — watermelon, corn on the cob, and fruit salad being three of
my favourite. Life’s too short not to enjoy the beautiful season of summer.
Hard as it might be to step away from my desk, I’m going to take a day or two
off this summer to just relax and enjoy the season.

Loved reading this post. Just going to be with my family – hub, 2 sons and their girlfriends and my 87 year old mom, cooking, braaing, walking, cycling, reading, watching movies, whatever takes our fancy #myfavethingstodo.

  • Such a good post! I love number 6…especially more so because I’m pregnant and dying for a glass of cold, bubbly champagne. lol.

I definitely want my kids to run around outside and ride their bikes on the beach a few times before it starts getting too cold! And paint my nails a different summer colour every 2nd day before I have to go over to the dark side 😉

I will be going to our spot, at the Union Buildings in Pretoria with my fiance, to enjoy the sun and some bonding time before we begin the new season by saying “I do” on 2 May 2015 #happiness. Then we’ll do our annual thing of buying a few blankets for the kitties and pups at our local animal shelter. ☺
