Good coffee, (vegan-friendly) cookies and ice-cream, and some precious quality time with my little Bean… these are just a few of my favourite things, and now I can get them all under one roof, thanks to Crumbs & Cream’s flagship store in Regent Road, Sea Point.
A couple of weeks ago, I took the morning off to attend the grand-opening of Crumbs & Cream’s first store – with Beanie tagging along for company, of course. We first discovered Crumbs & Cream Ice-Cream Sandwiches when we stumbled upon their little food truck at the V&A Waterfront while visiting the aquarium a little while back, so I was really excited to pop into their store and meet the owners.
Crumbs & Cream was started by sisters, Shahar and Or, who dreamt of a house filled with cookies and ice-cream – so they did the next best thing and created the perfect ice-cream sandwich, with delectable toppings to boot. Although I liked the concept and the look of the little food truck when I first spotted it at the Waterfront, I didn’t think it was for me – simply because I’m transitioning to a vegan diet and, well, vegans don’t eat ice-cream or most cookies.
Fortunately for me, Crumbs & Cream caters to just about everyone – including vegans. They have an irresistible vegan cookie (aptly called ‘Vegan Heaven’) and they also serve dairy-free sorbet.
Beanie and I shared (and by that I mean I had about two bites before he polished off the rest…) the delicious wildberry sorbet nestled between a deliciously soft and chewy Vegan Heaven cookie, which contains dark choc chip cookies and pecan nuts, and a colourful Rainbow cookie that Beanie had his heart set on. And he couldn’t resist topping it with his favourite – mini Smarties, of course!
All of Crumbs & Cream’s cookies are freshly baked all day, every day, to ensure that your cookies are still nice and warm when you get them. They have 14 different cookies to choose from, with about 16 flavours of gelato – simply pick a cookie (or choose two different cookies if you’re feeling extra indulgent), choose your ice-cream flavour, then finish off with a topping of your choice. It’s fun and it’s delicious!
An ice-cream sandwich costs R35, but you can also order individual scoops of ice-cream or cookies on their own. My favourite deal is definitely the coffee and cookie combo, which will set you back just R30 and is the perfect winter pick-me-up for the cooler months ahead.
Visit Crumbs & Cream at 16 Regent Road, Sea Point to try their scrummy ice-cream sarmies for yourself, and don’t forget to show them some love over on Facebook. You can also find out more about Crumbs & Cream and view their menu, here.
