Elizabeth Arden have really stepped up their game over the past couple of years, going from being a brand that I dabbled in on occasion (I can’t be alone in my obsession with everything 8 Hour Cream, right?) to one that I absolutely cannot get enough of. Case in point? The brand new Elizabeth Arden Tropical Escape Colour Collection, which is making me all sorts of happy at the moment.
Inspired by the lush, vibrant hues of the tropics (think golden, sun-kissed skin and juicy, tropical fruits), Elizabeth Arden’s new Tropical Escape Colour Collection is all about recreating that relaxed holiday glow from the comfort of your own home – and all year round.
I was pretty sold on this collection the minute I spotted the new Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oils (R295 each) – how could I not be drawn to these, given the super-cute, super-squeezable packaging? These addictive little lip oils are available in six shades (including a sheer nude shade, a bold and vibrant red, and an on-trend purple hue), and they’re the perfect marriage between a hydrating lip balm and a high-shine, pigmented gloss. They’re not sticky in the slightest, plus they’re packed with five nourishing oils to keep your lips kissably soft and smooth:
- coconut oil – to soften and smooth lips upon contact.
- avocado oil – packed with antioxidants and rich in Vitamin E, avocado oil helps to condition and protect your lips.
- Tsubaki oil – helps to support natural collagen for a plumper pout.
- Meadowfoam oil – hydrates lips and makes them look instantly more supple.
- Splianthes Acmella flower extract – boosts collagen production for plumper, fuller-looking lips.
I’ve been playing with these beauties for a couple of weeks, and although I can’t quite comment on whether they’ve successfully managed to plump up my pout, they’ve definitely become my go-to lip product for everyday wear. I’ve been wearing Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oil in ‘Pampering Pink’ (lighter shade, pictured above) every single day for the past two weeks, and I can’t get enough of it. It glides on smoothly and evenly, depositing just the right amount of sheer pink lip colour, and they’ve been a real life saver in Jo’burg’s dry, winter air. (No chapped lips in sight!)
I recently wore Elizabeth Arden Sheer Kiss Lip Oil in ‘Heavenly Rose’ (that’s the other, darker pink shade pictured here) out to dinner, and received so many compliments on this shade – it’s a really pretty, wearable shade that isn’t too in your face, but it packs just the right amount of punch for when you’re looking for something a little bolder than usual. Given that these beauties are a gloss-oil hybrid, they’re not incredibly long-wearing – something that doesn’t bother me in the slightest (because, let’s face it: half the fun of these little babies is pulling them out to reapply your lippie), but if you’re after something that’s a bit more matte and lasts a little longer on the lips, these aren’t for you.
I’m not big into bronzers, so when I first spotted the Elizabeth Arden FourEver Bronze Bronzing Powder (R550), I wasn’t expecting much at all. A bronzer is a bronzer is a bronzer… right? So wrong! This four-in-one compact in shade ‘medium‘ features the perfect combination of shades for a healthy, natural glow – even in the middle of winter. Each compact comes with a mini brush (that works really well, unlike many freebie brushes that come with palettes) and a little diagram that shows you how to use the compact for best results. You can pick out each shade individually to create a perfectly contoured look, or you can swirl your brush over the quad all at once for a beautiful, all-over glow.
I personally love picking out each shade individually: I use the dark shade to contour, the highlighter to highlight (what else?), and the pink hue to add a bit of colour to the apples of my cheeks. I find that, although it’s a little fiddly, the brush that comes along with the compact works well for this method of application. That said, creating a full-on contoured look – although really pretty – is very time-consuming, so I’ve only tried this look twice before going out in the evenings, when I had a little more time to play around with my makeup. I tend to stick to a quick, all-over swirl of all four shades for everyday wear, and I find that it not only leaves me looking as though I’ve just returned from an island getaway, but the pretty, natural glow leaves me feeling a little more refreshed as well!
What I love most about the Elizabeth Arden FourEver Bronze Bronzing Powder (apart from the super-cute name and beautiful, chic packaging) is the fact that the soft-focus micro-fine particles help to scatter and diffuse the light, which helps to minimise the appearance of large pores, fine lines, and wrinkles – something that very few bronzers manage to get right. The majority of bronzers I’ve tried in the past all rely heavily on shimmery particles to create a radiant glow, and we all know that overly shimmery powders only serve to draw attention to fine lines, wrinkles, and imperfections. Thankfully, this bronzing powder doesn’t go overboard when it comes to shimmer or glitter; if anything, it leaves your skin looking luminous and lit-from-within. It also contains starch to absorb excess sebum for a soft, matte finish (no caking in sight), while hyaluronic acid helps to keep your skin nourished and well-hydrated (hey, every little bit counts, right?) It also boasts antioxidant super-powers in the form of vitamins A and C – ideal for reducing the effects of harsh environmental aggressors, like sun, pollution, and stress. It truly is a perfect little palette, and one that will take you all the way through the rest of winter and well into summer.
The gorgeous Tropical Escape Colour Collection is currently available at Elizabeth Arden beauty counters nationwide. If you’re looking to spoil yourself to a new lippie, or if you’re in the market for a new bronzer, I recommend that you pop by your nearest counter pronto – these little beauties are so worth it!
