My regular Sunday night pamper session has become a weekly ritual that I can’t do without. It usually starts with a long soak in the tub, followed by an indulgent face mask, a quick at-home mani and pedi, and a couple of episodes of my favourite series (I’ve just finished watching The Sinner, and I’m currently hooked on Love Island… it’s so bad, it’s good!)
I’ve been chopping and changing between different face masks in my collection – depending on my mood or current skincare needs – but it’s been a while since I’ve stumbled upon a face mask that I could easily classify as a favourite… until I discovered the Tara & Jack Le Masque range.
I’d read only good things about the Tara & Jack Le Masque range, so when The Beautiful Store sent me the Tara & Jack Moisturizing Biocellulose Mask (R130) and the Tara & Jack Shaker Mask with Apple Stem Cells (R130) to try, I had high expectations.
I’m a big fan of sheet masks, so I decided to try the Moisturizing Cellulose Mask first. This deeply nourishing mask is ideal for those who are struggling with dry, dehydrated skin – and it’s perfect for you if you’re looking to plump up your skin and reverse the first signs of ageing. It boasts a plethora of hydrating ingredients, like skin-loving aloe vera to soften and soothe your skin, along with a good dose of hyaluronic acid to draw more moisture into your skin for a noticeably firmer and more plumped up appearance. Application is as simple as smoothing the sheet mask over your face (don’t forget to remove the protective gauze), then leaving it for a good 20 minutes before removing the mask and massaging excess serum into the skin. My skin felt instantly smoother and more moisturised, and it looked visibly softer and smoother. This is one mask that I’ll definitely stock up on again. Yes, it’s a tad pricey at R130 a pop, but it’s way cheaper than a facial at a spa or a salon, with the same results.
I’ll admit that I was definitely more interested in trying the Moisturizing Biocellulose Mask than the Shaker Mask with Apple Stem Cells, but I was blown away at the results of the Shaker Mask. The name confused me at first (“what on earth is a shaker mask?”), but it made perfect sense once I read the directions. My parcel arrived with a little plastic container (or shaker) that’s used to mix up your own mask solution – and yes, it’s as fun as it sounds!
I started by adding 100ml of room temperature water into the little container (I used cooled, boiled water), before emptying the contents of the sachet into the container and giving it a vigorous shake. The mixture soon turned into a refreshing gel mask, which I slathered onto my skin in a thick, luxurious layer. The packaging says to leave the mask on your skin for 10 minutes before peeling it off in one piece, but Rachelle from The Beautiful Store recommended that I rinse it off with warm water or wipe it off with a face cloth instead.
The gel mask feels deliciously cooling on the skin, and is ideal for use during the summer months (and especially if you’ve spent some time in the sun, like I did this past weekend). It’s said that one sachet makes 3 or 4 masks (you can keep the remaining mixture in the fridge for up to 10 days), but I’ve already used mine twice and my sister-in-law has used it once as well, and I still have at least half of the mixture left! Guess who’ll be indulging in a deliciously soothing skin treat every day for the rest of this week?
