After two and a half months of living in Johannesburg, I finally feel as though we’ve settled in (and I don’t need to use Google Maps on my phone every time I need to drive somewhere anymore!) One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about planting roots in a new city is exploring all the parks, malls, and little shops and restaurants that have cropped up since I last lived here. My favourite recent discovery? Sprout Cafe & Salad Bar in Edenvale, without a doubt!
Sprout Cafe & Salad Bar is a brand-new eatery that focuses on creating healthy and nutritious (but still incredibly delicious) breakfasts, lunches, and smoothies. The thing that excited me most when we first stumbled upon this little gem is the fact that they cater to vegans and vegetarians – they even have a vegan peanut butter waffle on the menu, which I’ll definitely be indulging in next time we pop by!
The Husband was equally delighted because he could feast on his favourite – bacon, eggs, and toast – while I had a pretty difficult time making up my mind. I’m so used to having a limited selection to choose from when eating out, that this menu made deciding damn near impossible! I was very tempted to have the vegan scrambled tofu, but ended up going for the honey mustard tofu wrap – and it was scrumptious! We washed our meals down with mugs of strong coffee (with a choice of dairy or non-dairy milk), while Beanie opted for the vegan berry smoothie.
I was also really impressed with the reasonable price points – think R45 for bacon, eggs, and toast, and R38 for my wrap. When we popped into Sprout a couple of weeks ago they’d literally just opened, but I have no doubt that they’re going to become one of the city’s hotspots. Definitely worth the drive to Edenvale if you don’t live in the area. Oh, and another crucial bit of info: Sprout offers free WiFi, and the centre’s play area is right in front of Sprout. A win for work-from-home mamas like me!
