With the summer holidays right around the corner, I’ve been paying my body a little extra attention so that I don’t feel too self-conscious when it comes time to whip off the sarong and reveal some skin.
I’ve been buffing and scrubbing at least once a week, and I’ve even started using a firming product to help tone things up just a tad – but more on that soon. I’ve also been moisturising from top-to-toe on a nightly basis, and I can’t believe the difference it’s made to my skin.
My skin feels infinitely softer and it looks a whole lot more ‘glowy’, too. Even the husband’s commented on how silky smooth my skin feels, which – let’s face it – is not a bad thing! While rearranging my bathroom cabinet a few nights ago, I noticed something rather curious: every single one of the body products I’m currently using contains some form of beauty oil. No wonder my skin is feeling so amazing!
I thought that little coincidence warranted a blog post of it’s own, so I thought I’d do a little round up of the skin-loving body products I’m loving right now. If you’re looking to slip a little touch of luxury into your daily beauty routine, read on!
I’ve been using the Nivea Creme Oil Pearls wash and Nivea Oil In Lotion range since they first launched in SA a good four or five months ago, and they remain firm fixtures in my shopping basket. The luxurious Creme Oil Pearls wash is heaven-sent for busy (or lazy) women who couldn’t be bothered to moisturise after every single shower, and I honestly believe that this product is responsible for ensuring that my skin stayed soft and well-moisturised all through the harsh Jozi winter. Forgot to apply your body lotion? No problem! This nourishing, pampering formulation will ensure that your skin is well-hydrated.
If your skin needs a little extra love (and if you’re a fan of matching your body washes and lotions), you’ll love Nivea’s Oil In Lotion. It’s enriched with jojoba oil to lock in moisture, but the lotion is still lightweight enough to ensure that it’s quickly and easily absorbed. I love using it in the mornings because I don’t need to stand around waiting for the lotion to absorb properly. Oh, and did I mention that both products smell absolutely divine? There’s also a vanilla variant on the market, but I’m obsessed with the cherry blossom scent – especially now that it’s summer.
If your skin needs an extra helping of moisture, I think you’re going to enjoy the new range from Clere Radiance. The range consists of a body oil (a first for Clere), a body lotion, and a body creme. All three contain a nourishing blend of argan, olive, coconut, magnolia, and caster oil to hydrate and soften the skin, while helping to boost your skin’s radiance at the same time.
I reached for the thick and nourishing Clere Radiance 5 Oils Body Creme on an almost-daily basis during winter, but I’ve since switched to the Clere Radiance 5 Oils Body Lotion, which is more readily absorbed and a better option for the summer months. The Clere Radiance 5 Oils Body Oil, on the other hand, has become a bit of an obsession. Not only does it leave my skin feeling soft and supple, but it also leaves a beautiful, non-greasy sheen on my legs. And I use it for everything: as a post-shave treat for my legs, to target existing stretch marks on my thighs, as an overnight foot treatment, and even to smooth frizz and flyaways (you only need the tiniest amount for this). The range is very easy on the pocket, and it also boasts a really soothing, comforting scent.
Arguably one of my favourite discoveries in recent months is the new range of Johnson’s Vita-Rich Firming Body Oils, which are said to help to prevent the appearance of stretch marks and also help to firm up your skin within four weeks. Now that’s a claim I was more than willing to put to the test… and boy, was I impressed! I honestly wasn’t expecting much at all, but I started noticing a difference after applying this sweet-smelling body oil all over for a solid three weeks. The skin on my upper thighs and bum appeared a lot firmer than before, and I’ve been pulling on my shorts without breaking a sweat ever since. The oils are also said to leave your skin looking more even-toned, so you may want to look into these if you’re concerned about sun spots and pigmentation.
There are two variants in the range: a beautifully fresh green tea variant (which I’ve just started using and is perfect now that the weather is warmer), and a deliciously fruity variant with red berry extract (pictured here). I am a big fan of both of these oils, and I can see them becoming a permanent fixture in my skincare routine – just like the rest of the Vita-Rich range, which I previously reviewed, here. (I am still obsessed with the Johnson’s Vita-Rich soap bars!)
