If you’re a mama – regardless of whether your sprog is five months, five years, or fifteen years old – you’ll know the feeling: it’s been a long day with a to-d0 list that’s the length of both your ams put together, you’ve spent ages trying to get the kids to eat all their dinner and finally go to bed, your mascara is all over your face (panda eyes, anyone?)… but you couldn’t be bothered to wash your face or show yourself some ‘self-love’, to be honest. You’re just that tired, that exhausted, and that frazzled.
We’ve all been there, and as much as we’d love to take half an hour out at the end of the day to take a quick bath, slap on a face mask, grab a glass of wine (or a cup of tea), and put our feet up, the reality is that most days, you’re just too exhausted at the end of the night that you simply don’t have the energy to make some much-needed me-time happen.
Thankfully, I’ve stumbled upon three beautiful, hard-working (but quick and easy to use) beauty products from Nivea that help make the job a whole lot simpler. In fact, I plan on sharing these goodies with all the busy mamas in my life this Christmas… and that includes YOU!
I’ve long been a fan of micellar waters, especially for those late nights when you don’t feel like washing your face. In case you’re wondering, micellar water looks just like water, but it contains tiny micelles (teeny cleansing oil molecules) that help to remove dirt, makeup, and other impurities in just a few swipes of a cotton pad – and without drying out or stripping your skin. New Nivea Perfect & Radiant Micellar 3-in-1 Cleansing Water (R99,99) is designed specifically for normal to combination skin types, and it ticks off three boxes in one go: it removes even the most stubborn makeup, it gives your skin a deep cleanse, and it tones and refreshes your skin. Genius!
Nivea’s Perfect & Radiant Micellar 3-in-1 Cleansing Water contains Vitamin E, an anti-oxidant that fights damaging free radicals and prevents the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. It’s gentle enough to use every day (and even on the sensitive eye area), and it won’t disrupt your skin’s natural barrier function.
The barrier function refers to the Stratum Corneum – the outermost layer of your epidermis (the technical term for your skin). This layer is made up of dead skin cells that are ready to be shed, along with lipids that are vital for maintaining you skin’s moisture levels and preventing water loss. Some harsh cleansers and beauty products may damage these lipids and disrupt your skin’s natural barrier function, which results in dry, itchy, flaky, sensitive, or inflamed skin. Nivea’s Perfect & Radiant Miceller 3-in- Cleansing Water won’t, so if you’re looking for a quick, effective, but gentle option for removing your makeup while cleansing and toning at the same time, this one’s for you! It’s also one of the more budget-friendly micellar waters on the market, and I think it’d be a fantastic gift option for all the busy women in your life.
Another beauty must-have for busy moms who aren’t getting much sleep? New Nivea Q10 Plus C Anti-Wrinkle + Energy Skin Sleep Cream (R169,99), which will leave you looking as though you’ve had eight hours of beauty sleep, even when you’ve been up feeding a hungry baby since 1am. The name alone gets me excited: ‘Skin Sleep Cream‘… Doesn’t that sound divine?!
This lightweight moisturiser contains two incredible, highly-effective anti-oxidants, namely Vitamin C and Nivea’s much-loved co-enzyme Q10. Co-enzyme Q10 helps to boost energy production, while Vitamin C is renowned for its brightening properties, as well as its ability to increase the production of collagen for smoother, more plumped-up skin. I love that it comes packaged in an air-tight, aluminium tube to ensure the longevity of the ingredients (Vitamin C is notoriously sensitive to light and oxidises when exposed to light or oxygen).
I also love the feeling of the skin sleep cream on my skin: it’s absorbed in an instant, and it doesn’t leave a greasy residue on the surface of my skin – unlike so many other night creams I’ve used in the past. After using this cream for just one night, I noticed an immediate improvement in the look of my skin; my usually dull and dehydrated skin was replaced with an instantly brighter and more glowing complexion, literally overnight!
As I mentioned above, Vitamin C is sensitive to light, so it’s vital that you wear sunscreen on a daily basis when using this wonder ingredient to prevent dark spots from developing (you should be wearing sunscreen every day anyway, but you already knew that…) Thankfully, Nivea has got you covered with new Nivea Q10 Plus C Anti-Wrinkle + Energy Day Care SPF 15 (R169,99). This velvety soft day cream simply melts into your skin, and it doesn’t leave an oily residue – nor does it leave your skin looking chalky white, like so many sunscreens tend to do! In fact, it’s quite the opposite: it’s absorbs in an instant and it makes your skin look visibly brighter and more awake – even after just one use.
Like the Nivea Q10 Plus C Anti-Wrinkle + Energy Skin Sleep Cream, this day cream contains both Vitamin C and co-enzyme Q10 to help fight the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, while boosting your skin’s radiance. It also contains broad-spectrum sun protection to prevent further sun damage. A summer essential, and one that helps to save time in the mornings: forget applying both your moisturiser and following up with a sunscreen – this one does both!
