If you’ve been reading my blog or following me on social media for a while now, you may already be aware that the past few months have not been my happiest… My little family has made two cross-country moves within the space of a year, I lost my Oupa to cancer a little under a year ago, my husband and I have gone through an incredibly rough patch, and I’ve struggled with depression (again) – all the while trying to make ends meet, keep my business afloat, and be a good mama (and we all know how relentless being a mom can be!)
That’s why, when I received an email sharing more info on an online course designed specifically for mums, I signed up immediately. Sure, life is looking a whole lot better these days and things are finally starting to fall into place, but I could definitely do with some tools and insight to help me live my best life – or even help me to identify exactly what my best life looks like, because I don’t think I know what I want anymore! Being a mom is such an all-consuming role that I don’t get to do as much introspection as I used to, and I haven’t thought about my five year plan for oh, about five years (since before Beanie was born). It’ll be good to take a little time out at the end of each day to focus on me, my dreams, my goals, and where I see myself a few years down the road. The thought of rediscovering the real Chereen and who I am besides being a wife, a mom, and a writer has me feeling all fired up!
Truth is, being a mama is ROUGH! It’s by far my favourite ‘job’ and I feel so lucky to be a mama, but I also found that my transition into motherhood was so much harder than I ever expected it to be. It’s only now, after five years of parenting that I’m finally starting to feel as though I know what I’m doing, but I remember those early years as though they happened just yesterday: the constant sleep-deprivation, being completely frazzled at the best of times, and feeling all touched out at the end of the day, thanks so a clingy baby that seems permanently attached to your hip (or boob, in my case!) Fast-forward a couple of years and the challenges are different, but still rather tiring: the never-ending questions from an inquisitive little mind, begging and pleading for ‘just one more story’ at bedtime, and the constant rushing to and from school and extra murals. I’m exhausted just thinking about it! Is it any wonder, then, that any form of ‘me-time’ is often the last thing on my to-do list… and usually gets kicked right off the list altogether? Just a couple of years ago I found myself feeling completely burnt out, so I enlisted the help of a life coach – and I still find myself using her tips and resources to this day.
I know that life coaching can get a bit pricey and that it’s often seen as a luxury, but I really do believe that it’s important to seek help when you need it most (and before it’s too late) – especially when it comes to your own mental health and self-development. That’s why I was so excited to discover that my own life coach, Caitlyn De Beer, has launched an online course aimed specifically at mamas, and it happens to be a whole lot more affordable than booking 3 sessions with a life coach! Caitlyn’s new course, fittingly called ‘Mums Living Their Best Lives‘ is a five-week online course (launching mid-October) that focuses on helping mums to identify and live their BEST lives… and I don’t know about you, but after the year I’ve had, this sounds like exactly what I need! Based on my experiences of working with Caitlyn in the past, I know that this course is going to be incredibly helpful and worth every cent.
