Fresh Pressed Beauty: What’s new in April 2019

Fresh Pressed Beauty: What’s new in April 2019
There are so many exciting new beauty launches that land on my desk (or in my inbox) on a weekly basis, but – truth be told – it’s simply not possible for me to write a blog post dedicated to each and every single new product that comes my way!

When I worked in magazines, one of my favourite tasks each month was compiling our ‘beauty news’ pages. I’d set aside an entire afternoon, grab myself a cappuccino from the coffee shop downstairs, then spent the rest of the work day poring over beautiful press releases, swatching new lippies, testing lotions and potions on the back of my hands, and selecting only the very best and most exciting launches to share with my readers. So today, I thought I’d do the same thing: I’ve set aside a couple of hours, have made myself a warm cuppa, and am currently surrounded by beauty products in every direction… so let’s dig in, shall we?

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Overnight Hydrating Masque (R550)

Just in time for the chilly winter months, Kiehl’s has just launched a super-indulgent overnight hydrating masque that promises to replenish your skin’s moisture reserves and prevent moisture loss for a noticeably plumper and more hydrated skin – literally overnight!

I literally did a little happy dance when I first heard the news, as the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser and Ultra Facial Cream are two of my top products from the range (along with their iconic Creamy Eye Cream with Avocado – so good!) If you’re looking for a nourishing night cream to help treat dryness and combat the appearance of fine lines, this masque might be worth looking into. It’s also a great option for busy women who don’t have time to wait for a mask to settle – simply slap it on before hopping into bed, and you’re good to go! I’ll be putting this masque to the test over the next couple of weeks, so watch this space for the full review!

Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub (R165)

We all know I’m a sucker for a good body scrub, so you can imagine my excitement when this gentle and pampering body scrub landed on my desk – more so because it’s from Elancyl, which is one of my favourite body care ranges.

The idea is that Elancyl Energizing Foaming Scrub not only leaves your skin feeling softer, smoother, and more supple, but also leaves it more receptive to Elancyl’s toning and firming products applied after scrubbing.

I like that this scrub is super-gentle on the skin (I have tried it, and will be sharing a more in-depth review shortly), and contains plant-based micro-exfoliating particles derived from apricot kernel powder. The scrub is also enriched with emollient agents and Ivy extracts to nourish your skin and lock in moisture. It smells utterly divine, and feels so gorgeous on my skin… it’s definitely worth slipping into your shopping basket next time you’re at Clicks or Dischem.

NUXE Crème Prodigieuse Boost range (from R425)

I am such a massive fan of NUXE’s products, so you can bet that I immediately switched out my skincare routine the minute the new Crème Prodigieuse Boost range landed on my desk! Ranging from roughly R425 – R495 and available at select Woolworths stores, the range includes an eye cream, an essence (designed to be used after cleansing and before moisturising, and great for packing moisture into your skin), and two moisturisers in two different textures.

The products all contain an anti-oxidant complex with Jasmine flower and Vitamin C to combat the damaging effects of modern living – think stress, pollution, and fatigue. The radiance-boosting and energising formulas leave your skin feeling refreshed, plumped up, and glowing from the inside out. I’ve loved using the range and am especially fond of the NUXE Crème Prodigieuse Boost Essence, which I use after cleansing and toning, but before applying my moisturiser. It may seem excessive and like an unnecessary addition, but I’ve found that it leaves my skin feeling fresher and looking more radiant almost instantly. It also adds a little extra moisture, which is always welcome!

Labello’s new and improved formulation (roughly R25 each)

Just in time for winter comes news of Labello’s reformulation, which features caring, natural oils (think jojobo oil, shea butter, and avocado oil) to give you longer-lasting moisture. I’ve been putting the new, improved formula to the test and I can already feel a difference – I’ve been using Labello Med Repair SPF15 every evening before bed, and I love that there’s still a thin film of product left on my lips when I wake up in the mornings.

I also like Labello Sun Protect SPF30 for weekends and when spending time outdoors, and when I want a little hint of colour, I go for Labello Blackberry Shine (there’s also a strawberry and a berry variant – they’re fab for those minimal makeup moods!)

Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Night Peeling & Serum (R499,99)

I think it’s safe to say that the majority of our skincare routines are pretty complex these days, so any product that promises two benefits in one gets my vote! New Eucerin Hyaluron Filler Night Peeling & Serum contains a bunch of AHAs to remove dead skin cells, refine your skin’s texture, and improve radiance, while supporting the accompanying Hyaluronic Acid for a moisturised, plumped-up, and wrinkle-free complexion.

It’s literally an overnight peeling solution and a serum in one, and I can already tell that this multi-tasking wonder serum is going to become a staple in my routine!

NIVEA Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Range (from R269,99 – R289,99)

Looking for a skincare range that will reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles, firm up your skin, and provide a healthy dose of hydration? Look no further! Nivea’s new Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity range is the brand’s most advanced anti-ageing range to date, and features a cell-activating formula to help the skin create its own collagen, while boosting both its hyaluron levels and elastin supply. Sound like gibberish? All you really need to know is that the products have been proven to add bounce to ageing skin, while helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots to boot!

I’m particularly intrigued by the Nivea Hyaluron Cellular Filler Elasticity Bi-Phase Nourishing Oil Elixir (R289,99) and can’t wait to put this facial oil to the test during the cold, winter months (when my skin is at its most dry). It’s a unique bi-phase facial oil that features a highly-concentrated water component to give skin a surge a moisture, along with a triple oil complex to nourish your skin. Ensure that you shake the oil well before use to ensure that both phases are mixed well, then apply to freshly cleansed skin before applying your moisturiser. I’ll be putting this beauty through it’s paces during the next couple of months, so watch this space for more info

The Urban Decay GAME OF THRONES Collection (from R250 – R1 250)

I may never have watched an episode of Game of Thrones, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t get excited over a new makeup launch from Urban Decay! This limited edition lineup boasts an array of lip colours, liners, and brushes, along with a gorgeous, pop-up eye shadow palette, the Mother of Dragons Highlight Palette (R600), and a stunning lip and cheek stain that I’m currently lusting after.

The collection launches online at urbandecay.co.za on 15 April (aligned with the global launch date), and will be available in all Urban Decay stores nationwide on 2 May 2019.

Elizabeth Arden White Tea Collection (R825 each)

Inspired by sunlit skin and the first rose blossoms of the season, Elizabeth Arden’s new White Tea Wild Rose is a beautifully sophisticated floral fragrance with noble rose essences from both Bulgaria and Turkey at its heart. If you’re a fan of the original White Tea fragrance (launched in 2017 and created t celebrate life’s simple pleasures), I think you’ll love this addition, particularly if you have a love for feminine, floral scents.

If you’d prefer something a little warmer and more comforting for the winter season, I think that Elizabeth Arden’s new White Tea Vanilla Orchid is the perfect pick for you. Think alluring vanilla infused with bright hints of lemon and quince, and you’ve got the idea… as perfumier Gil Clavien puts it: “”I wanted to capture the moment of pure tranquility and comfort, like cosying up under a soft blanket. The fragrance is a warm indulgence of soothing tea, sensual vanilla orchid and woody musks that blend together for a smooth and serene escape.”

I don’t know about you, but after reading these descriptions, I’m keen to get my hands on both of these scents!

Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment (R2 100)

Transform your skin from dull and dehydrated to dewy and radiant in just 4 weeks, thanks to new Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment. Sound too good to be true? I’ve just finished my first week testing out this innovative treatment and will be doing an in-depth blog post (with before and after pics) early next month, but will then, I thought I’d share a little more about the actual treatment for existing Prevage fans out there.

The Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment is a unique system of four progressively stronger formulas that are used over a period of four weeks. Each ampoule contains a seven day supply and every week the formula becomes more powerful, for maximum results while ensuring that the risk of irritation is low. The four-week treatment gently exfoliates surface skin cells and enhances your skin’s natural cell turnover, for a fresh, even-toned, and glowy complexion in the space of the month. It features Prevage’s newest breakthrough in peel technology, Polyhydroxy Acid, freshly mixed with powerful antioxidant, Idebenone, to address the visible signs of ageing while protecting against environmental aggressors like stress, sun, pollution, and more.

Filorga Oxygen Glow skincare range (from R360 – R725)

Blame it on Instagram, but studies have shown that the biggest skincare goal for women aged between 25 and 45 is to achieve a flawless, radiant complexion. It’s with this in mind that Filorga launched their new Oxygen-Glow skincare range, promising a glowing, #nofilterneeded complexion.

The range includes a cleanser, a face mask, an eye cream, and a moisturiser, each containing Nasturtium extract to energise the skin and provide radiance, a hyaluronic acid duo to plump and smooth, and L-Enzyme to detoxify. Each product also features unique photoperfector-HD illuminating technology that utilises soft-focus agents and skin-brightening pearlescent particles for an instantly radiant complexion.

In short? This range is perfect for women aged between 25 – 35 who are struggling with a dull, uneven complexion that lacks radiance (ME!) It’s priced more affordably than many of Filorga’s intensive anti-ageing products, so it’s a great starting point for those who are interested in trying the brand for themselves. The products are available at your nearest Edgars, Red Square, and Clicks stores.

Exuviance Probiotic Lysate Anti-Pollution Essence (R700)

We all know that the sun has damaging effects on the skin, but recent studies have shown that pollution is another leading cause of premature ageing – and brands have started to sit up and take notice. One of the launches I’m most excited about is new Exuviance Probiotic Lysate Anti-Pollution Essence, which is a topical probiotic essence that helps to balance, moisturise, and strengthen your skin.

It contains Lysate, a probiotic found naturally in yoghurt, as well as Gluconolactone, an antioxidant that helps to fight damaging free radicals while boosting your skin’s resiliency. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid to draw more moisture to the surface of the skin. I’ll be putting this essence to the test as soon as I’ve finished testing the new Prevage Progressive Renewal Treatment (mentioned above), so you can expect a blog post soon.

Elizabeth Arden Gift with Purchase with Sparrow Society

Following on the success of Elizabeth Arden’s 2017 and 2018 partnership with Sparrow Society comes this year’s gorgeous gift with purchase – four new cosmetic bags inspired by the intricate designs in traditional African basket weaving with an added pop of colour.

Kate Senekal, the founder of Sparrow Society, was named Elizabeth Arden’s Make A Visible Difference Community Hero for her tireless work connecting and empowering women in the townships of Gugulethu, Masiphumelele, and Philippi through their craftsmanship, design, and creative skills.

“The continued manufacture of the Elizabeth Arden bags by the Sparrow Society team in South Africa has served to sustain local manufacturing and revive lost factory jobs due to increased imports flooding the local market,” explains Kate. “Within the sustainable job creation program, Sparrow Society was also able to further empower their seamstresses with a Creative Business Course to equip them to start their own small business. Through partnerships like these, we hope to revive the manufacturing industry in South Africa and help to create a better and more sustainable future for all.”

If this sounds like something you’d like to get behind, you can get your trendy, handmade Sparrow Society cosmetic bag filled with seven generous samples when you purchase any two Elizabeth Arden products (one must be a moisturiser, serum, or foundation). Get a beautiful pink cosmetic bag when you shop at Edgars stores between 14 April – 5 May 2019, or get the gorgeous tangerine bag at your nearest Woolworths from 19 April – 6 May 2019. Or you could simply restock your skincare cabinet and get them both!

It’s worth noting that the samples included in the cosmetics bag are fabulous, too – I’ve enjoyed using the SUPERSTART Probiotic Cleanser Whip to Clay, the nifty little mascara is perfect for my handbag, and I could never have too many Ceramide Capsules!

And that’s a wrap on my breakdown of the beauty launches I’m most excited for this month… are there any that jump out at you, and that you’re most looking forward to trying? (And please do let me know if there are any other launches that I should know about!)
