I’ve been working on developing and honing my capsule wardrobe for about two years now, and this is the first season that I finally feel like I have things down pat.
A couple of months ago I decided to do yet another massive wardrobe clear out, and to try my hand at #project333. In a nutshell, #project333 encourages you to whittle down your wardrobe to just 33 pieces (excluding underwear, sleepwear, lounge wear, and fitness gear) and to stick to those 33 pieces for a period of 3 months. At first I thought that this would be a pretty difficult task, but even I was surprised to find that I only have 26 items in my winter capsule wardrobe!
Although I already have many of the basics down (think leggings, long sleeved black tops, and chunky knits), my wardrobe was missing a few key pieces. Here – in no particular order – are a handful of items that are currently on my winter capsule wardrobe wish list…
A pair of dark wash skinny jeans
I believe that a pair of really good-fitting, high-quality denim jeans are an essential: they can be dressed up or down, and if you opt for a pair of black or dark wash denims, you’ll be able to wear them to most occasions. My jeans are a little worse for wear and don’t fit as well as they used to – living a more active life in the countryside means that I’ve lost a little bit of weight, so my current jeans are a bit looser and saggier than I’d like. As a result, Sissy Boy’s Frieda Axel Skinny Jeans (R799) have found their way onto my wish list… I adore the fact that they’re mid-rise and a skinny fit, and the dark wash is perfect for my winter capsule wardrobe. (You can buy them here).
A classic coat
No winter capsule wardrobe is complete without a classic coat, and this camel-coloured waterfall coat from Superbalist (R999) is right at the very top of my wish list. I really like the large, waterfall collar, and the fact that it can be worn both belted or open. As someone who owns a lot of black clothing, the camel colour is very welcome and will add a little something different to my wardrobe.
A cross-body handbag
I usually opt for a really large handbag that can fit my whole life, but this season, I’ve found myself lusting after a smaller, trendier cross-body bag. That said, I want something that’s sturdy and is still quite spacious (I don’t go anywhere without at least 5 lip colour options!), and I found that this Carey Crossbody Bag (currently marked down from R399 to R259) fits the bill. It’s available in both black and tan, although the tan option is slightly more expensive at R449.
Not quite what you’re looking for? Superbalist has a stunning range of handbags to choose from, in all colours and all sizes, and to match all moods or occasions.
Original Hunter Boots
I have been lusting after a pair of refined matte Hunter boots for as long as I can remember, but I never felt as though I had good enough reason to buy a pair. Now that I live in Greyton and wear my purple Wellies at least once a week, I’ve decided that I definitely need to add a pair of Hunters to my wardrobe. These beauties (R2 599) are right at the top of my lust list!
A baby doll mini dress
Although my summer capsule wardrobe consists mainly of dresses, I hardly own any winter dresses. This Carissa baby doll mini dress (R449) would be the perfect addition to my wardrobe, as it can be dressed both up and down and worn for any number of occasions.
I could wear it with a pair of black stockings and ankle booties for a beauty launch, or brave the cold with bare legs and a pair of heels for date night. It would also look equally chic paired with my most coveted Hunter boots (mentioned above). NEED this dress in my life!
What about you? Are you a fan of #project333 as well? Do you have a capsule wardrobe, or are you fashion-obsessed with a wardrobe to match?
