Support local this Christmas with a sweet, hand-stitched stocking from The Little Banner Company

This year, I’m kicking off my annual Christmas Gift Guide with the most gorgeous hand-stitched Christmas stockings from local lovely, The Little Banner Company.

One of my favourite little Christmas traditions that I’ve been doing with Bean since his very first Christmas is opening our Christmas stockings on Christmas Eve, before settling in with some hot chocolate while watching one of our favourite Christmas movies. Finding the perfect stocking stuffers is another one of my favourite bits in the lead up to Christmas – I always include a few little treats for him to snack on during the movie, a few little bits and bobs (little Lego mini figures are always a hit), a pair of Christmas jammies to wear on Christmas Eve and Christmas morning, as well as some practical items, like toothpaste and some new undies.

We’ve been making do with a sparkly Christmas stocking that I bought from Woolies while I was still pregnant with Bean, but I’m changing things up this year with a beautiful, personalised Christmas stocking from a small local business called The Little Banner Company.

The Little Banner Company was founded by super-mama of three, Claire Choudry, while she was on maternity leave with her first son back in 2014. “It gave me another purpose when becoming a mother for the first time and allowed me to have an outlet for my creativity,” says Claire. Claire designs and stitches the most beautiful goodies, from felt banners for your littlie’s bedroom to bunting and now, these gorgeous, limited Christmas stockings that can be personalised for each member of your family.

Each stocking is made using cotton canvas material with felt, glitter felt, ribbon, and pom poms to add the little details. There are several designs to choose from – Beanie is currently obsessed with penguins so that explains our design of choice, but you can also go for a sweet little reindeer design, Father Christmas, a Christmas tree, a Snowman, or a gnome. If you’d prefer a more traditional, religious stocking, you can also choose between a turtle dove, an angel, or baby Jesus.

Every stocking will be unique in its own way, as Claire decorates them all by hand using an assortment of felt, glitter felt, ribbons, and pom poms. You can also customise your stockings by adding your family members’ names to the cuff.

Claire very kindly stitched up two mini stockings for the twins, and is always open to creating custom-made stockings, banners, or bunting – all you have to do is pop her an email with your ideas and she’ll take it from there. You can also opt for a minimalist design – either with or without a name on the cuff.

These stockings are truly so beautiful and would make for the perfect gift – simply pop a few sweeties and a toy or two into the stocking, and you’re set! The stockings range from R220 – R400, depending on the design you choose. Head on over to The Little Banner Company website, here, to have a browse or place your order.
